Tournament officials announced today that the 29th Annual Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Jackpot Tournament is going off as planned, with only a slight hitch due to hurricane Rick.

“The show is going to go on,” says tournament director Wayne Bisbee. “Senor Ricardo is finally cooperating, so we’ll still be able to get in three days of fishing. We’re just We're going fishing!going to back the schedule up one day. We’ll fish Thursday, Friday and finish up on Saturday.”

Hurricane Rick, which was a Category 5 hurricane just a few days ago, is rapidly weakening and veering away from Cabo San Lucas. The possibility of a direct hit on the tip of the Baja peninsula has kept the world’s richest billfish tournament in limbo for nearly a week.

“We did an extensive poll of our registered anglers and the overwhelming feedback was to add Saturday so we could stick with our three-day format,” Bisbee says. “The crews will have Wednesday to get everything ready and we’ll have our shotgun start bright and early Thursday morning. And after this blow, the fish should be snapping. We have the best anglers, captains and crews in the world and they’re ready for action.

“I really appreciate everyone’s patience and feedback,” Bisbee added. “It’s been a couple anxious days, but we’ve dodged Rick and now it’s game on!”

Registration continues today until 6 p.m. local time at the Puerto Paraiso Mall in downtown Cabo San Lucas, and will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, at Tournament Headquarters at Cabo Villas Beach Resort, room 1106 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday night Bisbee’s & Crest Magazine hosted a gala charity event at the Me Cabo. Attendees were treated to a delicious meal and entertainment, followed by a silent and live auction to raise money for the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, The Billfish Foundation and the International Game Fish Association. The festive crowd was in a great mood, despite the impending inclement weather.
