<p style="text-align: center;">The chatter on secret channels was all about the sea temps, which were in the high 80s. Many Teams elected to focus on the Gamefish Categories and Jackpots (Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna), while others chose to tackle Billfish in both Catch and Release Categories. In the Release Category, all Billfish, including Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Spearfish, and larger Black and Blue Marlin required a minimum weight of 300 pounds. </p>

All 98 Teams lined up well before the "Rockets Red Flare" sailed above Buenavista's Resort Beach Hotel at precisely 6:30 am. Many boats headed south, while fewer turned northward.</p> <p>The chatter on secret channels was all about the sea temps, which were in the high 80s. Many Teams elected to focus on the Gamefish Categories and Jackpots (Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna), while others chose to tackle Billfish in both Catch and Release Categories. In the Release Category, all Billfish, including Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Spearfish, and larger Black and Blue Marlin required a minimum weight of 300 pounds. <em>Any fish brought to the scale failing to meet the minimum weight would be penalized one point per pound.</em></p> <p>Just before noon, Team "Wild Hooker" boated what they were sure was a qualifying Black Marlin.</p> <p>Around noon, Stella June, who had celebrated a great first day with angler Jazz Moorhead boating a Black Marlin, once again raced back to the Weigh Station. Unfortunately, their Catch failed to meet the minimum weight. Their Black on this day weighed only 285 pounds, costing the Team -15 points.</p> <p>Late in the day, Team <strong>Oso Blanco Redrum Sportfishing, </strong>angler Toby Nunn,<strong> </strong>landed a Blue Marlin that failed to meet the minimum. It weighed only 205 pounds.</p> <p>In the Gamefish Division, the top three Dorado were El Patron, and angler Myles Fattalah's Dorado, weighing 38.1 pounds.
