All 98 Teams lined up well before the "Rockets Red Flare" sailed above Buenavista's Resort Beach Hotel at precisely 6:30 am. Many boats headed south, while fewer turned northward.

The chatter on secret channels was all about the sea temps, which were in the high 80s. Many Teams elected to focus on the Gamefish Categories and Jackpots (Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna), while others chose to tackle Billfish in both Catch and Release Categories. In the Release Category, all Billfish, including Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Spearfish, and larger Black and Blue Marlin required a minimum weight of 300 pounds. Any fish brought to the scale failing to meet the minimum weight would be penalized one point per pound.

Just before noon, Team "Wild Hooker" boated what they were sure was a qualifying Black Marlin.

Around noon, Stella June, who had celebrated a great first day with angler Jazz Moorhead boating a Black Marlin, once again raced back to the Weigh Station. Unfortunately, their Catch failed to meet the minimum weight. Their Black on this day weighed only 285 pounds, costing the Team -15 points.

Late in the day, Team Oso Blanco Redrum Sportfishing, angler Toby Nunn, landed a Blue Marlin that failed to meet the minimum. It weighed only 205 pounds.

In the Gamefish Division, the top three Dorado were El Patron, and angler Myles Fattalah's Dorado, weighing 38.1 pounds. It was the largest for the day, along with Team Laguna Madre, angler Ramon Acevedo, for his Dorado weighing 37.7 pounds, and Team Buffalo Sportfishing, Tawni King, Dorado weighing 33 pounds.

Heaviest Tuna Day 2

Rank Team Angler Species Points

1 Caprichoso Aristoteles Regalo Yellowfin Tuna 85.9 pounds.

2 Encantada Matthew Clifton Yellowfin Tuna 61.8 pounds.

3 La Buena Vida Juan Cota Yellowfin Tuna 56.9-pounds.

1 Wild Hooker Jeff O'Bryant Black Marlin 380 in across the board

Heaviest Dorado Day 2

Rank Team Angler Species Points

1 El Patron Myles Fattalah Dolphin 38.1.

2 Retriever Hector Cortez Dolphin 37.8.

3 Team Laguna Madre Ramon Acevedo Dolphin 37.7.

4 Buffalo Sportfishing Tawni King Dolphin 33.

Heaviest Tuna Day 2

1 Caprichoso Aristoteles Regalo Yellowfin Tuna 85.9.

2 Encantada Matthew Clifton Yellowfin Tuna 61.8.

3 La Buena Vida Juan Cota Yellowfin Tuna 56.9.

Total Species Count Day Two Friday

Black Marlin 3
Blue Marlin 8
Dorado 7
Sailfish 5
Striped Marlin 8
Yellowfin Tuna 7

Catch Count 38

Although respectable numbers for Day Two, Staff and Teams eagerly awaited what Day Three would bring.
